Day 2 – Amman, Jerash & Ajloun
Today you will head north for a walk through history in Jerash. This is regarded as one of the most important and best preserved Roman cities in the Middle East. Hidden for centuries in sand before being excavated and restored over the past 70 years, Jerash reveals a fine example of the grand, formal provincial Roman urbanism. You will be wowed as you see the remains of paved and colonnaded streets, soaring hilltop temples, handsome theatres, spacious public squares and plazas, baths, fountains and city walls pierced by towers and gates. Next, you will travel to Ajloun and visit the castle that dominates its skyline. It was built to ward off the crusader armies at the key trade and pilgrimage intersection between Jerusalem, Cairo, Damascus and Mecca. Finally, you will be driven back to Amman for dinner and a well-earned rest at your hotel.
Day 3 – Amman, Madaba, Mount Nebo, Kerak & Petra
Today you will be emotionally moved as you visit Mount Nebo, which according to the Christian tradition, is where Moses was buried. Here you can wonder at the view which Moses looked across to the Promised Land. Next you will travel to the town of Madaba and discover the amazing Byzantine mosaics excavated from throughout the town. See the ‘Madaba Map’, which is the oldest preserved mosaic map of the Holy Lands. Next you will continue south to the ancient crusader castle in Karak, where you will have the chance to explore the maze of stone vaulted, halls and passageways. Learn how the city of Karak was the capital of Moab which explains why the castle dominates the skyline. The castle provides an impressive insight into the architectural and military skills of the Crusaders.
Finally, you will head to Petra, where you will feast on a delicious dinner and an overnight stay at your hotel.
Day 4 – Petra
After breakfast, you will explore the beauty of the Red Rose City of Petra. Petra was first established around the 6th century B.C. by the Nabataean Arabs, a nomadic tribe who settled in the area and laid the foundation of a commercial empire that extended into Syria. You will spend time visiting its many caves and tombs. You will also have the chance to walk through the Siq and be astounded at the magnificent Treasury, the entrance guarding the ancient Nabatean city, now one of the modern seven wonders of the world. Be sure to take your camera with you to snap photos that you will treasure for years to come. You will also explore the Street of Facades to the Royal Tombs and Pharaoh’s Castle. After that, you will have some free time to explore Petra on your own. Finally, you will be driven back to your hotel for dinner and a good night’s sleep.
Day 5 – Petra, Wadi Rum & Amman
Today you will drive to Wadi Rum to enjoy a wilderness adventure. You will hop inside a 4×4 jeep for a tour of Wadi Rum. Following in the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia, you will climb sand dunes and rock bridges. After this unforgettable experience, you will be driven back to your hotel in Amman for dinner and a well-earned rest.
Day 6 – Amman & Dead Sea
Relish in the wonder of the Dead Sea which is a salt lake bordered by Jordan, Israel and Palestine. The water has a density of 1.24 kg, which makes swimming feel similar to floating. You can spend the day relaxing , or floating in the salt waters, or simply resting by the pool. You can also pamper yourself with a spa treatment.
